I think it's look like a concept of the 1800 century | Kommentert av: Jan Henrik Øvergaard Dato: 29.11.2009 16.47.22 |

You're quite a designer, Chris! Exellent work on the details! But sincerely, there are several really bad construction flaws on this thingy... | Kommentert av: Einar Rønningen Dato: 29.11.2009 20.51.44 |

I agree with you on that Einar, but that is the case with almost all concept drawings. The drawing in itself are excellent! | Kommentert av: Espen Børresen Dato: 29.11.2009 21.50.18 |

Well, i can quickly summarize some of the major flaws with the design as it is right here. As a vision it is a good start :) First of all, we all know the Tucker company from USA, delivering these 4 belt machines for slopegrooming. There is one reason that they aint so popular in downhills, and that is rooted in the climb-ability. A machine with 2 large belts, compared with 4 smaller one is agreed to be the best solution. The next thing on my mind is that the winch is placed very far outside center of the machine, giving it a very sensitive steering upwards. As farther away from the machines center-axis the winch is located, as less steerability you will gain uphill. That means also that the machine will be rock stable downhill, but anyhow, it is in the uphill we need the winch at most! As mentioned above, the drivers position seems to be too far away from the blade. But major 1: keep a track to the successful development so far. Quad-belters are available on the market today, but isnt considered beeing a competitor to the dual-belters! :) Your graphical designwork is in an own league anyhow! Please feel free to present other "revolutionary" images from a redesigned machine, and also feel quite sure that you might be contacted from one or the other big manufacturers someday if this is your average outcome :) | Kommentert av: Ole Kristoffer Hole Olsen Dato: 30.11.2009 03.52.40 |

All very valuable comments. I have actually had work experience with Pistenbully in Laupheim and understand all the flaws with this design. The winch is indeed is the wrong location. The four tracks were an implied idea, allowing the driver to pass over lips without the machine dropping violently. With all the knowledge I gained from Pistenbully, I have set about designing a machine which is less concept, but with many more ideas. However, my main have studies have taken over for the time being, so the new groomer has been put to one side. I now have a good understanding of driver needs from both Europe and North America as well as manufacturing requirements and technology. I hope to finish the new design when I have some free time. Would be great to get feed back on that machine as well | Kommentert av: Chris Wyeth Dato: 30.11.2009 18.00.34 |
