we lost a windshield in our winch cat this year when the cable broke off a snowmaking air hydrant and the standpipe amazingly rode the cable down over 300 metres (hooked by the ball valve handle) and took out the windshield - the operator didnt know he had a problem til it hit. after the snowmakers plugged their leak our winch cat operator finished the trail he was grooming (avalanche trail cannon mt nh usa) as we had no other winchcat to finish the job properly. the pitch he was winching was the last pitch of the 1967 world cup downhill course that killy won - about 500 metres 36 deg pitch - the machine was prinoth br 350 w/ sherpa 1 winch system
