... you utilize the winch during shredding/cutting of the pipe, or is it mounted on the winchcat 'by accident'?

while shredding downwards on the left wall seen from top, there is a common problem that the right belt has more grip than the left belt. Due to the less grip on the inner/left side, the winch (when in use) is often used to stabilize the cat, so the shape of the wall doesn't look like a banana after a while! This is a downward problem only! :)
