Comment One PB300W, not used after some snow showers.... :) Notice the 1. generation dumbo ears on the tiller.... Not very useful!.....

Why aren't these dumbo ears not usefull? They have a longer and better finisher than the ears (flaps) from 2007...

I think (not entirely sure) it's because they are to soft so that they dont have enough pressure against the snow. They just flex over any bumps in the snow, due to that they dont create the nice overlap you want. Ole Kristoffer correct me if wrong )

At Titlis they have at the 600 these dumbo ears and they are better than the little ones from the PB 300 W Polar - because they have more pressure. When the ears are working (Dumbo) they have the cylinders closed and they work not bad!

the new ones are, as you say, quite good as far as I have heard :)

This is the first edition, and as you can see they make the whole machine unusually wide! The biggest problem with those Dumbos is actually that the tiller isnt actually designed with dumbos.... When you make a sharp turn, or a little sharper than a perfect curve, you will got a snow-edge between the dumbo and the finisher plate.... Only tried it on a demo when PB came with the dumbos the first time, and the biggest problem is that the tiller is nearly 7 meters wide over the dumbos!.... They look quite similar today, but they can be raised to an almost upright position so they are completely out of the way.... Dont compare it with a 300 Polar.... compare this with the solution on the new 600's with alpinflex tiller! .... in difference from the multiflex, the alpinflex tiller is designed with an Dumbo option in mind! :) Thats why Patric :)

Hold on, Dumbos, ears etc, as anovice I understand the side flex flaps are controlled by hydraulics, I presume we are talking different shapes. Can someone point out or show photos of both types side by side. Thanks.

Actually the difference is not so big as you may believe, but the biggest difference is that the dumboear is more out of the way on the second edition!.... In the first edition, you had an angle of around 15-20 degrees even if the dumboear was lifted to top, and then you have dumboears who is outside of the backfinisher.... Not very clever if you need to go really close to anything.... You also had some faulty design errors, so when the ear was lifted, the bottom of the ear was always in the snow anyway.... Anyway I try not to use the ear to much, because the finish is better without use of the ears :)

Second edition: http://www.trakkemaskin.no/visBilde.asp?bid=10384&lang=

Both of them have advantages and disadvantages, but i would have preferred the second edition )
