What's that attachment at the front of the blade for?

a kind of snowbucket :) so that you can grab on to the snow and carry it

Agreed Espen, they use it more at the start and finish of seasons where they need to carry snow further or where pushing is not practical.

and Neil... a great shot :) even if my preference is a littlebit more saturation on the color, this image is very detailed! This is a shot with a low f-value, and therefor you get this detailed front, and blurry back :) great! Not the most exciting overall picture, but i really like your composition of the image :) I am sure you would have been amazed if we let photoshop make som adjustments (not because the sunburnt 300, but because i assume the orange cab in the back is a bit less "grey") , and also sharpened the image to get details even more visible :D
